Rest in a Comfortable Position

When you have stomach or abdominal pain, resting in a comfortable position can help reduce strain on your abdominal muscles and may make the discomfort easier to tolerate. Avoid unnecessary movement and give your body time to settle.

Try lying on your side with your knees slightly bent. This can feel more comfortable than lying completely flat. You can also place a pillow under your knees while lying on your back if that feels better.

If lying down increases your discomfort, sit upright or recline slightly with your back supported by pillows. This may be particularly helpful if you also have bloating, acidity, or heartburn.

Wear loose, comfortable clothing around your waist and avoid tight belts or clothing that puts pressure on your abdomen. Take slow, relaxed breaths and avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or sudden movements while the pain is present.

Resting can provide temporary comfort, but it does not treat the underlying cause of severe abdominal pain. If the pain is intense, sudden, worsening, persistent, or accompanied by fever, repeated vomiting, blood in the stool or vomit, fainting, or a swollen/tender abdomen, seek medical care promptly.
