Avoid Certain Foods and Drinks

When you are experiencing vomiting and weakness, your stomach is sensitive and needs time to recover. Eating or drinking the wrong things can irritate your digestive system, increase nausea, and delay healing. Choosing gentle foods and avoiding irritating ones helps your body recover faster.

1. Avoid Spicy Foods

Spicy foods containing chili peppers, hot sauces, or strong spices can irritate the lining of the stomach and trigger more nausea or vomiting. Wait until you have fully recovered before eating spicy meals again.

2. Stay Away from Oily and Fried Foods

Fried foods such as chips, samosas, pakoras, fried chicken, and greasy fast foods are difficult to digest. They can make you feel more nauseous and may worsen vomiting.

3. Avoid Alcohol

Alcohol can irritate the stomach, increase dehydration, and interfere with your body's recovery. It should be avoided completely until you are feeling well and fully hydrated.

4. Limit Caffeine

Coffee, strong tea, energy drinks, and caffeinated soft drinks can upset the stomach and contribute to dehydration. Instead, choose water or ORS.

5. Avoid Sugary Drinks

Soft drinks, packaged fruit juices, and sweet beverages contain a lot of sugar, which may upset your stomach and, in some cases, worsen diarrhea if it is also present.

6. Avoid Dairy Products (If They Make You Feel Worse)

Some people find that milk, cheese, and ice cream are harder to digest after vomiting. Wait until your stomach settles before reintroducing dairy products.

7. Avoid Heavy Meals

Large meals can overload your stomach and increase the chance of vomiting again. Eat small, frequent meals instead.

8. Choose Gentle Foods Instead

Once vomiting has stopped, start with bland, easy-to-digest foods such as plain rice, bananas, toast, crackers, applesauce, boiled potatoes, or plain khichdi. Drink water or ORS in small sips to stay hydrated.

Important: If vomiting continues for more than 24 hours, you cannot keep liquids down, or you develop severe weakness, dizziness, blood in the vomit, or signs of dehydration, seek medical care promptly.
