🪴 Steps to Grow Vegetables at Home
1. Choose a Spot
- A sunny area is best (most vegetables need 4–6 hours of sunlight daily).
- Balcony, terrace, backyard, or windowsill can work.
2. Select Vegetables (easy for beginners)
- Leafy Greens: Spinach, lettuce, fenugreek (methi), coriander.
- Fruit Vegetables: Tomato, chili, brinjal, okra (bhindi).
- Roots & Tubers: Radish, carrot, beetroot, potato.
3. Prepare Pots/Soil
- Use pots, grow bags, or recycled containers (with drainage holes).
- Soil mix: 40% garden soil + 40% compost/organic manure + 20% sand/cocopeat for good drainage.
4. Planting
- Either sow seeds or plant seedlings.
- Keep soil moist, not waterlogged.
5. Watering
- Water once daily in summer, and every 2–3 days in winter.
- Always check soil moisture before watering.
6. Fertilizing
- Use homemade compost (kitchen waste, peels, tea leaves, cow dung manure).
- Add compost every 15–20 days.
7. Pest Control (Natural)
- Spray neem oil + water to avoid insects.
- Grow marigold nearby to keep pests away.
8. Harvesting
- Leafy greens: Cut outer leaves, plant keeps growing.
- Tomatoes, chilies, cucumbers: Pluck when ripe.
- Root veggies: Pull out when mature (check size by gently removing soil).
